Golden moments

I would call this being at the right place at the right time…

Here we are strolling along Philadelphia’s waterfront area which is called Penn’s landing.

It was a moment of calm and pleasure.

We had a full and happy day with one of my cousins, and were now taking our last walk of the day. We were enjoying the last moments of the day’s fading sunlight as it casted its golden tints on Philly and neighboring Camden NJ,across the Delaware river.

Perfecto…

Date: September 2008

Philadelphia,PA.

A tall ship…

All roads lead to Philly; a long “ribbon” of cloud points towards the Benjamin Franklin bridge…

Twilight.

Have a great week and hope to see everyone on your blogs soon.

Aloha festival parade(part IV)

I’m wrapping this parade up here, friends.

This one is dedicated to the people. Even though Hawaii is a place of incredible beauty,it is the people who are the best thing about Hawaii.

They pass on what is called the “Aloha spirit” or a feeling of sharing and openness that is hard to find.

No captions needed here; just enjoy :

And for the “tail end” part, I’m leaving you with my friend:

He wins “Barb’s prize” as the funniest pooper scooper of the parade.Complete with his little wagon, cow bell and a sporty cow outfit.Way to go!

Heres hoping that your summer days are fun and bright :)

See you very soon.
XO

Aloha festival parade(part III)

These classic Beatles lyrics trotted through my head as I posted these pictures :

“Baby you can drive my car
Yes I’m gonna be a star
Baby you can drive my car
And maybe I’ll love you.

Beep beep’m beep beep yeah”

What would be an American parade with its classic cars? Iam not a car fanatic but am just like everyone. I like to look at beautiful things.

Take a look at these beauties, holding various politicians and personalities on their back seats.

Photographing them was like a dream for my hubby; they all wanted to be admired and looked straight towards the camera!

A politician greets the crowds…

I LOVE the name of this car ” Ku’uipo” means sweetheart in Hawaiian :) .

A Deputy Commander and his wife…

This lady and the peeps in the following cars are honored by the festival organization…

I’ll be back for one last peek at the parade this week. Have a great day,

and…

Beep beep’m beep beep yeah back to ya!!

(Another) Princess passes by (part II)

Elegance,

Grace,

and Personality…

Add a beautiful horse and  you have the portrait of a festival princess.

This particular princess represents Kauai. Each princess and her group wear the color and flower of their island. For Kauai it is a very royal shade of purple, and the Mokihana which is not a flower but a berry. It is used in making flower leis(garlands):

Lady banner bearer…

Hail the Princess! You can see the princess wearing strings of the green berries. In fact, the berries are present in all the troop’s leis and floral decorations.

Here are her Ladies in waiting…

Followed by strong bodied male escorts…

Then, the “tail end” of the Kauai delgation. Tail end is the appropriate expression, especially with the scoop that the older youngster is carrying.

Introducing the  Cleanup crew!

The little house on wheels is the “hale” or house for the horse excrements, or “Kukae”. Each mounted troop had its cleanup team and some were a riot. I just may bring out a few more when I get to the “tail end” of this parade :)

Have a great day ;)

Aloha Festival parade(part I)

The following that you will see is a sampling of what is called the Aloha Festivals floral parade. D and I partly planned to come to HI at this time to catch this parade, which my husband had NEVER seen before.

The parade is just one of many events every September which showcase Hawaii’s unique culture and heritage. If you are interested in knowing more: http://www.alohafestivals.com/index.html#

Enjoy part one of my show:

Mounted police opening starting the festivities.

A traditional conch shell blower( like a town crier)

Never a parade without the Armed forces Color Guard.

A local High school puts on a show with dance…

music…

and flag throwers!

Announcing the arrival of the parade queen( there is also her male counterpart who is curiously enough, just a  “Marshal”. So,honor to our sisters and…

Hail to the Queen!

This is quite serious; there is an official court, and princesses and their ladies representing each island with each island’s colors and official flower. There are 8 major islands, so 8 princesses, with each princess’ escorts and ladies in waiting!

So now you know what the drift is concerning the princess on my previous post :)

More coming very soon  xo
