3 is a magic number

I was surprised to find a theme running through a couple of my Hawaii photos: groups of three.

3 young boys walk along a Waikiki seawall.

3 men wait for the wave. This photo and the rest were  also taken along Waikiki beach.

2 men and a boy check out the water activity.

And last but not least:

3 young wahine( Hawaiian word for woman) who were squealing as the brisk waves pounded their legs and feet. They saw me!

  1. How fun. Even in the ‘wait’ it’s looking like loads of fun. And for the photos, three seems the perfect number in all the shots.

Oh, I’m one of the squealers too. I can walk on the edge, but the prettiest rocks/shells always seem to be just a TAD farther out than I can stay dry in. LOL Yes, I’m one of the greedy rock gatherers.

    1. Hi Mel,
It was indeed freaky to see this theme. And in fun situation on the beach. Hey; if you can photograph peeps and have fun, that’s the ticket!
The waves were not high on water’s edge but pounded hard. Yes,the shells are always prettier where you can’t/ won’t go! LOL!! Just off hand, I didn’t notice shells along the sand. You gotta wet your bod to have some, I guess!
      See ya soon. 😉

  2. Barb, these are just lovely!

I especially love the first one because of the contrast of your strong focus on the three boys and the soft focus on the background.

And you really captured the surprised looked on the three young ladies faces in that last shot!

Well done, my friend. Well done!

    Can’t wait to see more!

    1. Hey Ronnie,
Thank you! I had fun with this one. I watch the body boarders/swimmers for a long moment. Thanks for your observation about the 3 boys. I really didn’t notice the contrasts until you said.
      Duh.. You are right!
I guess you can say that whatever other people can do that you can’t(I am a bad swimmer) is always a source of fascination.

  3. Awesome candid portraits! Very interesting to see the locals for me. I love it!

Three is a good number I think, although for the Chinese “8” is good luck. But hey, it’s hard to fit 8 people on a pic! ;lol:

  4. Hi Zhu,
I loved taking these! So fun to people watch on the beach!!
Three is of course, symbolic in Christianity for the Trinity. I don’t think that it has a “good” or “bad connotation otherwise. Yes; I remember about the 8 from HI. True; you have to push and squeeze a lot to have a lucky 8 portrait!!
